PLACES AND HOUSES IN BORDERLAND Wooden Architecture and Building Tradition in the North 1700-1940

Editors: Reidun Laura Andreassen, Teppo Korhonen and Einar Niemi.

The contributions, covering a vast border region, spanning from the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Bothnia and from the White Sea deep into the Russian and Finnish Karelia, offer for the first time in one single volume a detailed scholarly presentation of northern wooden architecture and building tradition.

The focus has been variety as well as similarities in form and building techniques.

The illustrative examples chosen are Hamningberg and Skallelv in Norway, Suvanto and Ii in Finland and Gridino and Solombola in Russia.

This book is published by Ethnos ry – The Association of Finnish Ethnologists in cooperation with The Seurasaari Foundation.

The book can be purchased at Café Mieritz (Seurasaari) and Bookstore Tiedekirja (Snellmaninkatu 13, 00170 Helsinki).
