Anu Hätinen’s photography exhibition “Finnish National Costume in the Landscape” is a tribute to the landscapes of Häme and to Finland’s rich textile heritage.

The photographs highlight towering trees, meadows, shimmering lakes, rushing rapids, the shadows of drifting clouds and the lush green of summer. Yet within nature’s embrace there is also a human presence—here, dressed in traditional Finnish national costume.

“I value craftsmanship, Finnish handicrafts, and the purity of our local natural environment. With this project, I had the opportunity to photograph Finnish women wearing beautiful national costumes in landscapes that are dear to me,” Hätinen explains.

The landscapes featured in the exhibition are in the Hämeenlinna region, including Aulanko, Sibelius Forest, and Häme Castle. The people are members of Hämeenlinnan Seudun Kalevalaiset Naiset ry, wearing their own national costumes—often self-made. The exhibition presents over a dozen different costumes from various regions of Finland.

Anu Hätinen (b. 1959) is a photographer from Hämeenlinna whose work focuses on nature and portrait photography. Her previous solo exhibitions have featured images of forest preschool children in their everyday environment (2025 and 2026), as well as medieval enthusiasts in costume (2020).

By profession, Hätinen is a specialist in general practice and occupational health. She has practiced photography since 2011 and has participated in numerous courses and group exhibitions. She is a member of the Hämeenlinna Camera Club, Photo Club Vision, and the Finnish Nature Photographers’ Association.

Photography exhibition is in Gallery Humina (near restaurant “Seurasaaren Juhlatalo”).
